ScreenBeam supports both peer-to-peer and over infrastructure wireless display from Windows 10 devices using Miracast. From an end user perspective, there's no difference between connecting peer-to-peer and connecting over-infrastructure, the process is the same.
By default, peer-to-peer Miracast is enabled on the ScreenBeam because it requires the least amount of configuration to set up. If ScreenBeams will be deployed in a high density environment network administrator may prefer to use Miracast over infrastructure, which routes wireless display traffic over the network instead of peer-to-peer between the Windows 10 device and the ScreenBeam.
If both over infrastructure and peer-to-peer are enabled on a ScreenBeam, the Windows 10 device will prioritize connecting over infrastructure, and will use peer-to-peer as a fallback if network conditions are poor or routing cannot be established to the ScreenBeam.
There are two methods you can use to connect your Windows 10 device to ScreenBeam using Miracast over Infrastructure:
- Connect your ScreenBeam receiver and your Windows 10 device to the same network
- Connect your Windows 10 device to the ScreenBeam local Wi-Fi
Method 1: Connect To The Same Network
Why Should I Use This Connection Method?
Use this method if your ScreenBeam is on the same network as your Windows 10 device. This is the simplest method for end users as they do not need to connect to a different WiFi network on their Windows 10 device to initiate a Miracast session. This method is also ideal from a wireless spectrum management perspective, as it redirects the wireless display traffic over the infrastructure network.
Connect ScreenBeam Receiver to Your Network
To get started, you'll need to connect the ScreenBeam to your infrastructure network using Ethernet or using Wireless.
Connect ScreenBeam Receiver To Your Network Using Ethernet
If you have an available Ethernet line for your ScreenBeam receiver, use it to connect your receiver to your network.
1. |
Plug your Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the rear of the ScreenBeam receiver. |
|
2. |
If needed, set your receiver’s network configuration. Note: Refer to the section Connect the Receiver to a Network in the user manual for further assistance. |
|
3. |
An IP address will appear on the Ready to Connect screen. |
|
Connect ScreenBeam Receiver To Your Network Using Wireless
If you do not have an available Ethernet line for ScreenBeam you can still connect to your network using wireless.
1. |
Access the Local Management interface on your ScreenBeam receiver and go to the Network Settings tab. Note: Refer to the Using Local Management on ScreenBeam section of the user manual for additional details on accessing the Local Management interface. |
|
2. |
Enter the Network Name for the network you would like the ScreenBeam to connect to and configure the security settings for that network. |
|
3. |
If needed, set your receiver’s network configuration. Note: Refer to the section Setting up the Receiver’s IP Address in the user manual for further assistance. |
|
4. |
An IP address will appear on the Ready to Connect screen. |

Your screen will now be mirrored on the TV. |
|
Method 2: Connect To ScreenBeam Local Wi-Fi
Why Should I Use This Connection Method?
This method will primarily be used for testing purposes, while connecting using Miracast over infrastructure using the Local Wi-Fi is supported, the use cases for this configuration are limited, as there is not a significant benefit to using this configuration over using standard peer-to-peer Miracast.
Enable Miracast Over Infrastructure Mode for Windows 10
Before connecting to the ScreenBeam's Local WiFi you will need to Enable Miracast Over Infrastructure mode in the Local Management Interface. Miracast Over Infrastructure mode is disabled by default.
